Standard: Wrong Worship

Just came across an amusing video about wrong worship. It’s probably on a lot of blogs already but I found that the reality behind some sung worship can be like this and even if I raise my hands or I shout praise in the middle of the song, my heart can be singing like this:

  1. So glad you shared this! I’d not seen it before, but such a challengely topic that we so often push to one side. Really praying over this as I head back down to Plymouth and CU starts up again. xx

  2. I get what it’s saying and freely admit that our hearts can be all over the place when it comes to worship. But isn’t there a danger that we end up saying that we should only sing when our hearts are set on Jesus? After all, can’t it be through singing things that God works at our hearts? I know some people think we shouldn’t sing things like “I surrender all” if our hearts aren’t there but often I find its through singing words like this that I *want* to surrender all again. Just a thought.

  3. Surely this is a challenge not only to sung worship but to all areas of church life, we can all be guilty of doing things in the wrong way with the wrong motives. Whilst i agree that it is a challenge, we must be careful do not judge people wrongly if they do raise their hands or shout out in worship. It’s very easy to misjudge peoples hearts. Only God truely knows the hearts of men and women. The challenge is that we ensure our hearts are right before God and worship Him in Spirit and in truth.

    • Hey Suz, thanks for commenting! 🙂
I totally agree with you, this isn’t just about sung worship but the whole of life, although the video only seems to link to sung worship but I have no doubt that it extends to all worship! And yeh I agree its not about judging people, I dont think the video (or myself) challenges or encourages us to look across the church and pick people out and judge them – the challenge is always to look to our own hearts and ask ourselves “who or what is my heart worshipping today”… because the outwards appearance can easily look Christian whether thats hands in the air or on your knees but its the heart that is important! Which is the point I am making by using this video 🙂
